  Victorians had a deep love for violets. They ate violets, candied, in cakes and pastries, and violets were at the heart of the cut flower boom: violet-sellers would stand on street corners, selling nosegays and bunches which women pinned to their dresses, or men tucked in their hat brims or wore on their lapels. They also featured violets in their ornate home furnishings. We imagine this dish sitting next to her reading chair, full of delectable treats.
  
  A cluster violets are featured on this organic-shaped porcelain dish, and detailed in gold. The dish interior has a luster finish, with a lovely burgundy-colored border, and lots of gold detail. Measures 8 3/4" wide, 8 1/4" wide, 1 1/2" tall. In good vintage condition -- No chips, cracks, crazing or scratches. Some of the gold edge paint has worn in areas, as well as an area of the burgundy trim (see pic #2). Bottom mark: Made in Japan (in gold)
